Saroj Khan’s condition is stable for now but quite delicate as the report from Guru Nanak Hospital is not very encouraging: Exclusive
We woke up this morning to the news that Bollywood’s ace choreographer Saroj Khan has been admitted to Guru Nanak Hospital (Bandra East). The reports in media did not convey that Sarojji is fighting a host of health issues.
This journalist has spoken to the doctor attending on her and the report is that Saroj Khan’s heart rate was dropping and a temporary pacemaker has been inserted. Meanwhile, her renal problem continues and Masterji (as she is fondly called) is on dialysis.
Dr Sheilija Singh, General Physician, says, “It’s a case of kidney and cardiac problem. Sarojji is currently stable but she was quite drowsy when we admitted her (last weekend) and so we had to shift her to the ICU.
We had to put an artificial pacemaker (a permanent one will be required, shortly) as her heartbeats were dropping. Her oxygen levels had also dropped and we put her on a ventilator for some time. She has sepsis and probably lurking pneumonia- but not COVID-19.”
“She also needs her medicines to support her blood pressure.
She hasn’t deteriorated but I can’t say that she’s drastically improved. She’s maintaining the status quo for now, but it’s fluctuating. You have to take one day at a time.
A few other doctors are also involved in her case. We have brought in a cardiologist and nephrologist.
She opens her eyes when told, sometimes she obeys commands, sometimes she recognises people,” Dr Sheilija added.
What is also not known is that Sarojji was also unwell 2 years ago and admitted to Nanavati Hospital (Vile Parle West). Sarojji’s list of her famous works in Bollywood is very long- Ek Do Teen in Tezaab, Dhak Dhak Karne Laga in Beta, Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai in Khalnayak, Dola Re Dola in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam to name just a few.
Sarojji also choreographed many popular numbers with Sridevi in Mr India, Nagina and Chandni.
The legendary choreographer’s last film outing was Tabaah Ho Gaye in Kalank, featuring Madhuri Dixit, with whom she has had a very long association. With a career span of over 40 years, she has choreographed more than 2000 songs and is known as ‘The Mother of Dance/Choreography in India’.
Here’s wishing that Sarojji recovers soon.
